Tournament Ending in Double Elimination Round Robin format
so wrong about UT losing to K st, and I picked Louisville to beat UNC. Stephen Curry ruined the midwest bracket for me
I think the most impressive team, thus far to me has been Memphis. In a lot of my brackets I had Mississippi St. beating the Tigers in the 2nd round. In my defense, it has been their most difficult game since the loss to UT.
The demolition of the 5th #1 cede in the longhorns' coral was tops among the all around dominating performances of this year's top cedes. Memphis is deep at every position even with the discipline doled out against a back up point guard.
I've heard it said that Memphis lacks a certain amount of class. I tend to think that thinking is code, and that the regular season free throw percentage only feeds this perception.
What if the best combo in this tournament isn't Lawson/Physco T or even Collison/Love, but CDR/Rose. Then again some folks from the heartland might argue for C
Chalmers/Rush.
In any event this is a reason to again not congratulate a group of men forced to watched basketball all year and cede a tournament of the best teams. Taxing work indeed. All 4 number one for the first time in 24 years. Incredible men's committee.

NBA Playoffs: Conference Finals
Eastern Conference Finals Game 2
LeBron James
LeBron James is the best basketball player I have ever seen. I grew up with Micheal Jordan on my television. I was in the building when the first 23 went for 42 at age 40. MJ never did anything like this.
His airness never exploded and "dunk[ed] like its the 8th game of the season in Memphis" late in game 5 of a physically grueling playoff series, repeatedly. (mike terico espn radio)
He answered everything a championship team threw at him. When it mattered the most, the height of drama in this season's Eastern Conference, LeBron did things that have never been done and with a powerful calm previously unseen from a 22 year old in sports. Its a landmark night in sports not just the NBA and its generation.
Mad critics too, he's 22 he is 22 and people were already writing him off. But, wait he may better than the hype, and my hype was exceedingly extraordinary. That same alliteration best describes the last 20 minutes of basketball played by James versus the Pistons.
I know James has yet to win a championship; yet, but he will. I want to be on record now as saying he is the best basketball player I have ever seen. Yeah, also, in the first half he leaped over the afro-locks of Anderson Viajao in order to come to the big Brazilians defense and draw a technical foul. The best player on the floor, was saving his team all night, even in the post game press conference.
And somehow its like it snuck up on us. So many writers' paid to opine sentiments should be fired today. People that said he wasn't clutch, feared the big moment, and (Here in New York those guys are identified easily today by there morning columns on how and why the Knicks should trade for former child actor Kobe Bryant.) Myself, included we were all talking about the quality of basketball in a Pistons/Spurs series, but the future became the breathing air and some of my generation are going to be older in the morning than they were when they went to bed.
The game has changed, and next is now. (It doesn't matter if they lose this series)
Seriously, Kobe on the Cavs and not LeBron, That team is no better than 3rd in the Central this season.
Ohyesitis!!
LeBron James
"Hey I have an idea, I think LeBron can take his man if we set him up."
(what should have been said in the last time out of Hoosiers
or
something actually whispered by Drew Gooden to Mike Brown upon fouling out)

Round 2 Pt 1
If Cleveland wins back home in 5, and wins....
Lebron will go to the Finals with a city on his back.
all witnesses.
Detroit will regret once again letting a team back into a series and having to play, that said we all thought this series was going to go 6 or 7 games when it began.
The Cavs are poised and Lebron is showing signs of greatness.
Vince disappoints again.
The Utah Jazz will win at least 2 games in the Western Conference Finals.
A fair suspension for vw clutch, Spurs F Robert Horry would include game 7 as well. I can see it now the teams trade home losses and Horry come back to block a Nash fade away with out fouling then [or just after] draining a devastaing 3 to silence the PHX phaithphull.

NBA Playoffs Rd. 1 Pt. 1
Miami vs. Chicago
The Heat where whipped sufficiently, from beginning to end, in all phases of the game, for 4 games. The Bulls were quicker, more atheletic, more energetic and better prepared. The Heat did not show the tenacity of a champion, at any point of this series. (and if there is one thing I know about it is the tenacity of the championship spirit)
Ben Wallace: 7 for 7 from the line. (My, my, it was quiet for the last 4 attempts right before the 2 minute mark. Shame on Miami fans for adding no home court advantage to a situation you most influence of all. Head on over to Buffet's place to drink those playoff blues away then wake up and work the last 3 weeks of May to find out that the Marlins wanting to trade Dontrell Willis and Ted Ginn's quad pulled in mini-camp lead the sports cast.)
Everyone in Florida had the Gators' season ending in April, but who thought the Heat would be done in the same month.
Honestly, ask yourself, did you think Kirk Heinrick would be this good of a NBA player?
Ben Wallace has beaten Shaq as a Laker with Kobe (2004 Finals), bested Shaq in red with D-Wade now twice. Both as a Piston (2005 Eastern Conf. Finals) and now as a Bull he has proven he can mix it up with O'Neal and even get the best of him while effectively leading his team to victory.

Week 8: Tampa Bay vs. Giants
The most important thing that happened today (on the field):
The Giants defensive line stayed in Gradkowski's grill all day. The rookie didn't look bad, but large men with long last names and Michael Strahan were on him crazily and he seemed to be running for his health all afternoon.
For me:
Consistent tipping from Giants fans. thank you. $80. killer. serious ups that was nice.
Most crucial thing today:
The wind there were gusts of up to 50mph at the stadium today. Once my hair and twice my empty case gusted out of my control when stepping into the tunnel from the stands.
Plaxico Burrus made a touchdown grab in the first quarter that snaps a lot of fans back into realizing why they would agree to pay those millions to a guy that can seemingly zone out of the most basic plays at times. 17 stabbed the pass from Eli Manning with his left hand to end what might have been a competative play in the back corner of the end zone and score 6 points. This was a play most guys even in the NFL cannot make and what helps to make Plax special - to the extent that he has been during his career.
Giants football is not particularly exciting. They led 14-0 after the first quarter. 14-3 at half, and won 17-3. Lots of quiet in the crowd moments good for hollering things like, "hot dogs! pretzels! Crrack-ah Jacks!!"
which i did a lot to some profit.
However, every 3rd down for the defense they'd get rowdy, and then so would the defense (blitzes from all over plus a strong rush from the front four) and then it was over punt, commercial quiet again. And the offense really just protected the lead mostly.
There was less than 500 yards total offense combined in this game so it was not like the G-men were doing things on offense worth hooting about. (and thank you beer for helping grown men not need a reason to hoot at ...)
Some really old guys who won the 1956 championship and are still alive were honored at halftime. Some members had to be carted both on and off the field. Only 12 minutes in the nfl halftime - there is not time for the oldtimers or the average Dan/Jan in the stands to get any where and back. So get a cart or let me come to you. Message to home fans everywhere... the early 3rd quRTER there is no NO NO 12th man not in new jersey.
